Advancing the integration of remote and renewable energy sources in the power system through High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and DC technologies

Direct Current for European Union (DCforEU) is a Horizon Europe Framework Programme-funded project that supports the use of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Direct Current (DC) technologies to help the EU reach its climate targets by 2050.

The main goal of DCforEU is to provide support to facilitate the work of the European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan Implementation Working Group on HVDC and DC technologies (DC IWG), in order to realise the IWG outcomes.

The DC IWG has the following long-term contributions to society:

GUIDE POLICY MAKERS

Provide guidance to policy makers and industry decision makers to support DC technologies

SHARE KNOWLEDGE

Significant cost reduction by sharing knowledge, resources and cost reduction measures.

CONSISTENT POLICY SUPPORT

Ensuring long consistency and quality of the work through follow-up, clear communication and timely interactions.

To achieve the DC IWG outcomes, DCforEU will address the following secondary objectives:

  • Provide organizational support to the IWG on HVDC & DC technologies

  • Coordinate, communicate and establish institutional links with other initiatives/projects, ETIPs/IWGs

  • Coordinate, communicate and establish links with relevant external parties and stakeholders

  • Track progress and mark completed Research and Innovation(R&I) activities on HVDC & DC technologies over time

  • Disseminate and exploit the outcomes of the IWG

  • Initiate societal engagement and raise public awareness about the need for DC technologies
